The Pitt Wins Best TV Series, Drama at 2026 Golden Globes

“The Pitt” has won the Golden Globe for Television Series, Drama, beating out a field that included some of the most formidable contenders from past and future Emmy races.

The series, which hails from creator R. Scott Gemmill and executive producer John Wells, was an immediate success after debuting on HBO Max in January 2025. It attracted initial attention for reuniting “ER” creator Wells and star Noah Wyle (Gemmill also wrote and produced for “ER”), but quickly differentiated itself for its serialized storytelling and willingness to comment on very contemporary problems with the American healthcare system. It was quickly renewed for a Season 2, and won the 2025 Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Drama Series.

Kleber Mendonça Filho, Wagner Moura at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes held at The Beverly Hilton on January 11, 2026 in Beverly Hills, California.

Appearing in the winners room at the Beverly Hilton after winning his own Golden Globe for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Wyle (who is also an executive producer), explained how he and Wells conceived the show after watching what American healthcare workers went through during 2020.

“This show really started coming together during the pandemic when we were looking at what was happening in healthcare in America. And soon thereafter, I called John Wells and said, ‘I know you don’t want to do “ER” again, and I don’t either, but there might be another story to tell about what’s happening in the healthcare system in America,’” Wyle said. “As we were watching, it was playing itself out to show that we have two different healthcare systems. We have one for the affluent and one for people that live in certain areas of the country and have certain color skin. And the people that were getting the sickest, the people that are getting the hurt the most. So whether it was medical misinformation or boarding crisis or nursing shortage or morale fatigue, we wanted to kind of put the spotlight back on first responders, talk about what they’ve been going through for the last five, six years.”

This year’s nominees also included Netflix’s “The Diplomat,” HBO’s “The White Lotus,” and Apple’s “Severance,” “Slow Horses,” and “Pluribus.”
